Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science

Xu Shizhe Professor of Zhejiang University Department of Earth Sciences He was born in Taizhou, Zhejiang, on October 2, 1936 and graduated from Changchun College of Geology in 1956. Professor Xu Shizhe was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Science. He is one of the first to apply the boundary element method in geophysical exploration. Xu Shizhe has long been engaged in geophysical research and teaching work and has numerous outstanding achievements in the field of computational geophysics. He creatively proposed the method of constructing conformal transformation of coordinate net to correct the impact of terrain of geophysical field.
CHEN Shupeng Geographers, Cartographer, Expert in remote sensing mapping, Chinese Academy of Sciences member He graduated from Zhejiang University, Department of History in 1941, and then he received a master degree from Zhejiang University, the institute of History in 1947. He is the academician of the Chinese Academy of Science, academician of International Eurasia Academy, and academician of the Third World Academy. His research areas include GIS, remote sensing and cartography. Professor Chen Shupeng was the creator and founder of remote sensing application and geographic information system in China. He established the institute of remote sensing application, Chinese academy of sciences and the state key laboratory of resource and environment information system.
Ding Zhongli Prof. Ding, a Quaternary geologist, was born in Shengzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1957. He graduated in 1982 from the Department of Geology, Zhejiang University, and obtained his Ph.D.from the CAS Institute of Geology (the predecessor of today's CAS Institute of Geology and Geophysics, IGGCAS) in 1988. Prof. Ding served as the director of IGGCAS from 2000 to 2007. He was elected the academician of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2005, and became the vice president of CAS in 2008. Prof.Ding engaged in the study of quaternary geology and paleoenvironment research. Based on the sedimentation of red beds of tertiary system and the quaternary loess, he reconstructed the historical record of arid area in north China during the past seven million years.
Jin Xianglong Visiting professor of Zhejiang University in Earth Science He worked in the second institute of oceanography and was elected the academician of the Chinese Academy of Science in 1997.He is one of the founders of submarine scientific research and was engaged in the exploration and study of submarine resources in China’s marginal seas. He put forward important ideas on the marginal seas structure of China, crust evaluation and nature and evolution model of China’s marginal seas.
Dai Jingxing Guest professor of ZJU in Earth Science, Expert in Petroleum Geology and Geochemistry, Leader of Petroleum Geology of China, Respected as the father of natural gas in China, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science He presented the theory that coal series is the better industrial hydrocarbon source rocks. Pro.Dai developed the study of exploitation of coal-formed gases and proposed the model of coal-derived hydrocarbon, models of gas reservoir and methods on identification of natural gas reservoir.
Tang Zhongli Visiting professor of Zhejiang University in Earth Science, Expert on mineral exploration, Geologist of mineral deposits Pro.Tang was elected the academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995.He has long been engaged in mineral exploration and the study of geology and mineral resources. Pro.Tang made a great contribution to discover Jin chuan nickel mine and explore buried ore bodies of Jin chuan nickel mine.
